Best post on the Internet.“I’m sorry, but having a dream isn’t the problem — I have the dream, I just don’t know how to get there.” “So make no mistake, Mercedes Jones has desire and ambition so hot, it’s a freaking inferno.”My favourite female character on the show. Season 3 managed to leave her fairly unscathed.
Season 3 has actually managed to do awesome things for Mercedes, both as a character and as, like, a person. She gained a sense of self strong enough that, instead of crying in a car about not being recognized, she decided to make it happen for herself, and she left a team that was supposed to be like a family to her because they weren’t treating her well and she wasn’t going to take it. She recruited other women who weren’t being recognized and asked them to share the spotlight with her, because Mercedes doesn’t need to be “the star”, she just needs to be recognized instead of marginalized. (Still wish she’d tried to recruit Tina, but I guess you can’t have everything.) She became the leader of a team, and when her competitive instincts overruled her sense of right and wrong, she pulled them back into line.
And she’s the only person on this show who, after cheating, decided “This isn’t the person I want to be, I need to be alone for a while to figure myself out” instead of justifying her choices. She was honest with Shane and Sam and maintained her sense of self like a boss. Just wanting to be in a relationship or even just being in love isn’t enough for her to decide to be with someone, because being right with herself is more important to her.
It’s like the rare, weird time when Glee paying more attention to a character actually resulted in them getting better instead of being ruined.
I’m actually crying over this comment.
